1. Engineering run, August 1-7, 2003

Note: All analysis codes for engineering run have to be set up in advance, so that we can get immediate feedback on the quality of the data.

o) pedestals, LED and Laser runs until we get beam
we would like to start with LED and Laser runs before beam comes to H2.
a) re-establish HB performance
we would like to start with verifying that HB DAQ works, by taking pion data to HB, to be compared against HB data from May 2003.
b) ECAL calibration
At the beginning we will work only with ECAL_endcap module. second (ECAL_barrel) module will be introduced later on.
measure relative calibration for all (49) crystals : 100 GeV e- beam
central crystal to test linearity and resolution: energy scan 25, 50, 100 and 150 GeV e-
Note: some preliminary data for ECAL has been already taken this year (prior to HF run.)
time estimate: 2shifts (16h)
c) establish eta-phi map of HE
towers(eta,phi) =(29-4,5), (27-28-29,4), (17-18,3)
beam is 100 GeV electrons
time estimate: 2 shifts (16h)
d) verify HE tower->QIE assignment
verify that we understand where all HE towers appear in the data
this study should be done with muons
. Note: HE phi segmentation: for eta 16-20 tiles are 5degree, for eta=21-29, tiles are 10degree in phi.
Note: HE longitudinal segmentation is the following:
  • for eta 16 and 17, only one readout
  • for eta =18, two readouts, HE1=layers -01-03 (minus_1 to three), HE2=layers 04-17
  • for eta 19-26: two readout: HE1=layers 00-04, HE2=layers 05-17
  • for eta 27: three readouts: HE1=layer 00-02, HE2= layer 03-04, HE3= layers 05-17
  • eta=28 and eta=29 are special.
eta=29 exists separately only for 5 layers (00-04), then it becomes part of eta=28.
    for eta=28, three readouts: HE1=layer 00-02, HE2= layer 03-04, HE3= layers 05-17
for eta=29, two readouts: HE1= layer 00-02, HE2= layer 03-04. (HE schematic available here.)
    e) Layer 0 study
We will point the beam into center of tower eta=19, phi=5.
We will use 3x3 energy sum in HE (eta=18,19,20, phi=4,5,6).
we will connect L0 of HE(phi=5) into HE(RM=3).
All phi=3 cables for HE will be disconnected.
We will vary (in software) L0 coefficients.
we need good estimation of material between EE and HE before taking this data.
after we establish the optimal factor, we will introduce filters on HE(L0) for all four phis (3,4,5,6).
we need to wire source L0(phi=5) when it is hooked up to RM5 and RM3.
    beam pi- (25, 50, 100, 300 Gev)
    statistics: 10k evts/run
    time estimate: 2 shifts (16hrs)
    total time - 7 days

    2. HB, HO only run, August 8-14, 2003

    a) muon eta-phi scan
muons into HB and HO, all 6 phi's.
    (HO covers phi= 2-7 for Ring1 and Ring2, and only phi=3-7 for Ring0).
with these runs we will verify eta-phi-tower=>qie-channel assignments.
we will also check the relative timing of HO pulses.
    b) pion energy scan
single HB tower, HB+HO only and Ecal+HB+HO to see leakage
    c) electron eta-phi scan
redo calibration to compare against May data.

    3. Calibration run, August 15-22, 2003

    a) muons into HE without ECAL
    all towers
purpose: check moun calibration vs w.s calibration:
    beam: 225 GeV muons
statistics: 38 towers, each 10k events
    time: 20hrs (2.5 shifts)
    b) electrons into HE without ECAL
purpose: check HE response to electrons:
    beam: 25,100 GeV electrons
statistics: 26 towers, (eta 19 thru 29), each 10k events
    time: 20hrs (2.5 shifts)
    c) pions into HE with ECAL
    center of towers(eta,phi) = (19,4),(19,5),(20,4),(20,5)
    crosses: (19-20,4-5), (20-21,4-5), (21-22,4-5), (22-23,4-5), (23-24,4-5), (24-25,4-5), (25-26,4-5)
    beam: pi 25, 50, 100, 150 and 300 GeV)
for check, two electron point (25, 100 GeV)
    statistics: 200 runs, (10k evts/run)
    22 runs, (50k events/run) for tower (20,4)
    time: 148 hrs (18.5 shifts)
    total time: 7 days

    4. Additional HF study, August 23-27, 2003

More HF data may be taken in August, depending on the results of the analysis of the HF data recorded in July.

    5. HB/HE crack study, August 28-31, 2003

We would like to determine how energy is shared between ECAL, HB and HE and what is the optimal way of adding various samples to get the best resolution.

    6. Study of Longitudinal development of showers???, Sept, 2003

Suichi suggested to measure long. shape of hadron showers. right now geant4 predicts shorter showers than geant3.
we need to do wire source calibration before and after Long.profile study, preferably during beam downtimes (wed/thur?)

    7. Study of muon signal vs muon energy for HO and HE tower

choose one tower in HO and one tower in HE
take muon data at 20gev, 50gev and 225 gev
